Ethan Vallarino (b. 1989)
Ethan Vallarino is a self-taught painter who was born in New York City in 1989 and raised in Millbrook, New York. Although self-taught, Vallarino has enrolled in multiple studio classes, academically exploring the limitations and techniques of various artistic mediums. Such mediums include photography, ceramics and painting. He first began to delve into the processes of artistic production when attending Millbrook School; he then went on to continue his academic studies at St. Lawrence University, where he majored in Economics, minored in Fine Arts and received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
The abstract paintings of Ethan Vallarino explore the inner complexities of color, depth, balance and gestural expression. In many ways, he treats the canvas as a means of expression and purity, a therapy where emotions are recorded with color, layering and exactness. Although these paintings concentrate on the effects and functions of color, dimensional contrasts and emotional expression, they are rhythmically mathematical in terms of their fluidity and geometric balance. Each drip is relative to its counterparts.
