Rodney Carswell

b. 1946

I've known Rodney since 1974 when I was a graduate student and he was a painting instructor. Rod is one of the smartest painters I know — his work used to perplex me, even upset me, but I had to keep looking at it. A beautiful work of his hangs today in our home here in Chicago. Recently he achieved a dream of sorts, moving back to his hometown of Santa Fe after a long career at the University of Illinois at Chicago (and running a killer restaurant here called Flo).
